Etymology

From ухо (uho, ear) +‎ ла́зя (lázja, to creep) + -ка (-ka), based on the common belief (not actually true) that earwigs may lay their eggs in human's ears. Compare similar names in English earwig (literally: “ear-bug”), French perce-oreille (literally: “ear-piercer”).
