Etymology
editA compound of цӏокъ (cʼoqʼ, “ounce”) + *берг (*berg). Nikolaev and Starostin connect the latter with the second element in Dargwa дугелибуг (dugelibug, “badger”) and propose a genetic connection with Proto-Northwest Caucasian *bIaga (“jackal; fox”), other proposed connections are with Sumerian 𒊊 (pirig, “lion”), Proto-Indo-Iranian *wy(H)āgʰrás (“tiger”).
