Etymology edit

From Proto-Turkic *agrï-t-ïg (pain), an action noun of *agrï-t- (to cause pain; to feel pain in a specific spot; to be ill), originally a causative form of *agrï- (to ache; be ill). Also Proto-Turkic *agrï-g (pain).

Compare to Tatar авырту (awırtu, pain), Bashkir ауыртыу (awırtıw, pain; to feel pain in a specific spot); Kazakh ауырту (auyrtu, to cause pain), Yakut ыарыт- (ıarıt-, to cause pain; to be ill), Turkish ağrıtmak (to cause pain), etc.
