Etymology edit

An Iranian borrowing, probably Middle Median because of the prothetic a-. Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾxšʾd, “depressed, troubled”), Middle Persian [Manichaean needed] (ʾxšʾdyh, “suffering”), Sanskrit क्षत (kṣata, “hurt”). Further connections outside of Indo-Iranian uncertain.
