An Iranian borrowing. Compare Parthian 𐫅𐫏𐫖 (dym /⁠dēm⁠/), Middle Persian 𐫅𐫏𐫖 (dym /⁠dēm⁠/), Persian دیم (dim), Baluchi دیم (dem), Gurani دیم (dīm, “face”), Central Kurdish دیو (dîw, “side, face, surface”), Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬨𐬀𐬥 (daēman, “eye, look, sight”).
