From an unknown Classical Syriac dialectal form. Compare Hebrew כְּלוּב(fruit-basket; birdhouse, coop), Classical Syriac ܟܘܠܒܫܐ(kulbāšāʼ, basket), Arabic قلف(qilf, bark, rind). Ancient Greek κλωβός (klōbós, birdhouse) is also of Semitic origin.
