From a Middle Iranian word of the form *āšt (reconciled, peaceful). Compare Avestan 𐬁𐬑𐬱𐬙𐬌- (āxšti-, peace), Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫀𐫀𐫢𐫤 (ʾʾšt /⁠āšt⁠/, peace), Middle Persian ʾštyh (āštīh, peace), Persian آشتی (âšti, peace), Northern Kurdish aşt (reconciled).
