Etymology edit

The origin is uncertain. Likely related to շաղախ (šałax) and possibly to շաղ (šał).

  1. (transitive) to mix, knead, wrap together; to make mortar

Usage notes edit

The Hellenizing School used շաղ- (šał-) post-classically as a prefix to calque Ancient Greek words prefixed with συν- (sun-), e.g. շաղկապ (šałkap) = σύνδεσμος (súndesmos)
