From Old Armenian չ- (čʿ-).

  1. a negative particle appended to the verb to form the negative conjugation of all moods, except the imperative mood
    չ- (čʿ-) + ‎սիրել (sirel, to like) → ‎չսիրել (čʿsirel, not to like)
    չ- (čʿ-) + ‎գրեցի (grecʿi, I wrote) → ‎չգրեցի (čʿgrecʿi, I did not write)
  2. A negative prefix, appended to some verb roots
    չ- (čʿ-) + ‎բերել (berel, to bring) → ‎չբեր (čʿber, non-bringing, barren)

Usage notes edit

As a negative prefix (sense 2) this is not productive anymore.
