הוֹדָה • (hodá) third-singular masculine past (hif'il construction)

1. to admit, acknowledge, confess
   • Tanach, Proverbs 28:13, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     מְכַסֶּה פְשָׁעָיו לֹא יַצְלִיחַ; וּמוֹדֶה וְעֹזֵב יְרֻחָם׃

     məchassé fəša'áv lo yatzlíaḥ; umodé və'ozév yəruḥám.

     He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy.

2. to thank, acknowledge, express gratitude
   • Tanach, Psalms 118:1, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     הוֹדוּ לַיהוה כִּי־טוֹב; כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

     hodú laYHVH ki-tóv; kí l'olám khasdó.
     hōḏū laYHWH kī-ṭōḇ; kī ləʿōlām ḥasdō.

     ‘O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good, for His mercy endureth for ever.’
