Etymology edit
From Proto-Iranian *ā- (“ad-”) + *kan- (“to fill”).[1] The prefix is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éd (“to, at”), while the verbal root is, contrary to Cheung, a variant of Proto-Iranian *kanH- (“to dig”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kanH- (“to dig”).[2]
