Either inherited from Sanskrit तक्षन् (takṣan) and influenced by Persian ترخان (itself possibly from Old Turkic 𐱃𐰺𐰴𐰣 (t¹r¹qn¹)), or directly corrupted from the Persian term. Compare Urdu تکھان.
