Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܚܨܕ (ḥṣeḏ) or back-formed from حَصَّاد (ḥaṣṣād, reaper) borrowed from Syriac ܚܳܨܽܘܕܳܐ (ḥaṣṣāḏā), now belonging to a productive root ح ص د (ḥ-ṣ-d). Doublet of native Arabic خَضَدَ (ḵaḍada, to cut off).
