From Middle Persian [script needed] (dstk' /⁠dastag⁠/, bunch, bundle; handle), via the Neo-Persian descendant of which دسته (daste) later also Arabic دَسْتَة (dasta) has been acquired.

      Al-Ḵubzaruzzīy said:
      Distinguish me by a dulcet fagot … by reason that to it my yearn is roused!

      It [the type of dragonwort] has a leg as long as a hand’s span and is in form like a pestle, its colour nears purple, its fruits have the colour of saffron, its stem is of medium size.
