From Middle Persian [script needed] (dstk' /dastag/, bunch, bundle, group; handle). Akin to Old Armenian դաստակ (dastak), տստակ (tstak), Arabic دَسْتَج(dastaj), Classical Syriac ܕܣܬܩܐ(dastəqāʾ), all Iranian borrowings.
