Pashto

Etymology

edit

Akin to Pamir languages, a conflation of Proto-Iranian *Hyāb- (to fuck) from Proto-Indo-European *h₃yebʰ- and Proto-Iranian *gaH- (to move) from Proto-Indo-European *gʷeh₂-. The latter is a euphemism commonly used in Iranian languages, as in Persian گائیدن (gâ'yedan, to fuck). The former is found in Khwarezmian [script needed] (byʾβydʾh, to impregnate), Baluchi [script needed] (šabt/šāf-, to mate, to cover (a ewe)), as well as in Old Armenian յօսեմ (yōsem, to violate), an Iranian borrowing. Other cognates include Sanskrit यभति (yabhati), Russian ебать (jebatʹ).
