Etymology edit

Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (wtʾhtn' /⁠widāxtan⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *wi- + *taHč- (to melt), from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂-k- (to melt). Compare Ancient Greek τήκω (tḗkō, to melt).
