From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gwklt'), 𐫃𐫇𐫃𐫏𐫡𐫅(gwgyrd /gōgird/, sulphur). Cognate with Avestan 𐬬𐬋𐬵𐬎𐬐𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬌(vōhukərəti), Sogdian 𐫄𐫇𐫐𐫤(ɣwkt /γōkət/).
