Inherited from Old Punjabi ਹੁੰਮਸ (hummasa), ultimately from Prakrit 𑀉𑀫𑁆𑀳 (umha), from Sanskrit ऊष्मन् (ūṣmán). Compare Marwari ऊमस (ūmas).
