Usage notes

• This is said to a single male; the feminine singular is ܫܬܘܿܩܝ (štōq), and the plural is ܫܬܘܿܩܘܼܢ (štōqūn).
• This expression is rude, forceful and impolite. Some alternatives are “ܐ݇ܟ̰ܘܿܡ ܦܘܼܡܘܼܟ݂ (čōm pummūḵ, “Shut your mouth”)” or “ܒܲܣܵܐ ܗܲܡܙܸܡ (bassā hamzim, “Stop speaking”)”, also impolite, and a polite alternative is ܡܲܚܬܝܼ ܩܵܠܘܿܟ݂ (maḥtī qālōḵ, “Lower your voice”).
