Inherited from Prakrit 𑀘𑀺𑀁𑀢𑁂𑀇 (ciṃtei), from Sanskrit चिन्तयति (cintáyati).[1] Cognate with Sinhalese හිතනවා (hitanawā). Doublet of ހިތް (hit̊) and ހިޔަ (hiya).
