Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀭𑁂𑀇 (karei), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀓𑀭𑁄𑀢𑀺 (karoti), from Sanskrit करोति (karóti), from Vedic Sanskrit कृणोति (kṛṇóti). Cognate to Sinhalese කරනවා (karanawā)
