From Proto-Indo-Iranian *kr̥náwti (“to do, make”), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷr̥-néw-ti ~ *kʷr̥-nw-énti, from *kʷer- (“to do, make”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬐𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬌𐬙𐬌 (kərənaoiti, “makes, does”).
