Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀕𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀞 (goṭṭha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit गोष्ठ (goṣṭhá). Cognate with Konkani गोटो (goṭo), Gujarati ગોઠો (goṭho).
