Hindi
editEtymology
editInherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀛𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*jhaṭṭa, “suddenly”), from the same source as 𑀛𑀟𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀺 (jhaḍatti, “suddenly”) and Sanskrit झटिति (jhaṭiti, “instantly”), probably ultimately onomatopoeic. Cognate with Gujarati ઝટ (jhaṭ), Marathi झट-झट (jhaṭ-jhaṭ), and Punjabi ਝੱਟ (jhaṭṭa). Related to झड़प (jhaṛap).
