From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ṭhokk-. Cognate with Gujarati ઠોકવું (ṭhokvũ), Hindi ठोकना (ṭhoknā), Sindhi ٺوڪَڻُ / ठोकणु, Punjabi ਠੋਕਣਾ (ṭhokṇā), Odia ଠୁକିବା (ṭhukiba), Bengali ঠোকা (ṭhōka) / ঠুকা (ṭhuka).
