Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀞𑁄𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀤𑀺 (*ṭhokkadi), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀞𑁄𑀓𑀢𑀺 (*ṭhokati). Cognate with Punjabi ਠੋਕਣਾ (ṭhokṇā), Gujarati ઠોકવું (ṭhokvũ), Sindhi ٺوڪَڻُ / ठोकणु, Marathi ठोकणे (ṭhokṇe), Odia ଠୁକିବା (ṭhukibā), Bengali ঠোকা (ṭhōka) / ঠুকা (ṭhuka), Nepali ठोक्नु (ṭhoknu).
