Possibly from Classical Persian تشت (tašt); see तश्तरी (taśtarī). Cognate to Gujarati તાંસળું (tā̃saḷũ) and Marathi तसराळे (tasrāḷe) (metathesis of earlier तरसाळे (tarsāḷe)).
