Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀘𑁆𑀙 (paccha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮- (-la-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit पश्च (paśca). Related to पीछा (pīchā, “behind”).
