Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀩𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀇 (saṃbujjhaï) (compare Old Marathi 𑘭𑘦𑘕𑘰𑘪𑘜𑘹 (samajāvaṇe)), from Sanskrit सम्बुध्यते (sambudhyate). Cognate with Gujarati સમજવું (samajvũ), Hindustani समझना (samajhnā) / سَمَجْھنَا (samajhnā), Punjabi ਸਮਝਣਾ (samjhaṇā) / سَمجھݨا (samjhṇā).
