editInherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘳𑘝𑘰𑘨 (sutāra), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀳𑀸𑀭 (suttahāra), from Sanskrit सूत्रधार (sūtradhāra). Cognate with Gujarati સુતાર (sutār), સુથાર (suthār), Bengali ছুতার (chutar), ছুতোর (chutōr), Assamese সূতাৰ (xutar).
