Etymology

Inherited from Early Assamese উশাস (uśaso), from Sanskrit *উৎশ্ৱাস (utśvāsa), from Sanskrit শ্বাস (śvāsá), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱʷes- (to pant, puff, sigh). Cognate with Sylheti ꠃꠀ (ua), Odia ଉସାସ (usāsa, relief from disease, ease), Marathi उसासा (usāsā, sigh, suspiration), Hindi उसांस (usāns), उसाँस (usā̃s).
