Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀖𑀩𑁆𑀪𑀭 ~ *𑀖𑀩𑁆𑀪𑀟 (*ghabbhara ~ *ghabbhaḍa​). Compare Marathi घाबरणे (ghābarṇe), Hindi घबराना (ghabrānā). In case of two successive aspirated and/or breathy stops, the latter stop is deaspirated in many New Indo-Aryan languages.
