Inherited from Middle Bengali চক্কর (cokkor), from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, a semi-learned borrowing from Sanskrit चक्र (cakra). Compare Hindi चक्कर (cakkar), Punjabi ਚੱਕਰ (cakkar). Doublet of চাকা (caka), চক্র (cokro), and চরকা (corka).
