Umlaut of ঝুলা (jhula), inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀛𑀼𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀢𑀺 (*jhullati), from Sanskrit *झुल्यति (jhulyati, to swing), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *gẓʰulyáti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gžʰulyáti (compare Persian جولیدن (jûlidan, to scatter)).
