Inherited from Early Assamese ডাঙ্গৰ (ḍaṅgoro). Compare Sanskrit দীৰ্ঘ (dīrgha, long). Cognate with Kamta ḍaŋör, Bengali ডাঙর (ḍaṅor), Bishnupriya Manipuri ডাঙর (daṅor).
