From Prakrit [script needed] (*dhīmma, slow), perhaps related to a family of Prakrit words meaning "lump" with an initial ढ्, including Prakrit [script needed] (*ḍhīmma-, lump); the further origin of these words is unknown and perhaps borrowed from a substrate like Dravidian or Munda. Cognate to Hindustani धीमा (dhīmā) / دھِیما (dhīmā).
