From Classical Persian نو (naw), which is from Middle Persian 𐭭𐭥𐭪𐭩 (nōg), from Old Persian 𐎴𐎺 (n-v), from Proto-Iranian *náwah, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *néwos (compare Greek νέος (néos), Russian но́вый (nóvyj), Italian nuovo and English new). Doublet of নয়া (noẏa) and নওয়ালি (noōẇali).
