Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit *ৱাতত্ৰাস (vātatrāsa, “stormy wind”, literally “fearful wind”), a compound of वात (vāta, “wind”) + त्रास (trāsa, “fear”).^[1] Cognate with Assamese বতাহ (botah), Nepali बतास (batās), Odia ବତାସ (batāsa).
