Etymology

Borrowed from Portuguese Sintra, the name of a town in Portugal. Cognate with Hindi संतरा (santrā), Gujarati સંતરું (santrũ).

According to Hemkosh, it's from সোণ (xün, “gold”) +‎ তৰা (tora, “star”).
