Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀲𑀟𑀺 (*saḍi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-), from Sanskrit सृति (sṛti, road, path). Cognate with Bengali সড়ক (śoṛok), Hindi सड़क (saṛak) and Marathi सडक (saḍak).
