From Proto-Tai *ʰloŋᴬ (lost). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩉᩖᩫᨦ, Lao ຫຼົງ (long), ᦷᦜᧂ (l̇ong), Shan လူင် (lǔung), Tai Nüa ᥘᥨᥒᥴ (lóng), Zhuang loeng, Nong Zhuang loang.
