From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-n(u/a)m (STEDT). Compare Bokar num, Lepcha nǔm-tsǔ, Guiqiong mɔ³³ nɑ⁵³, Queyu ma³⁵ na⁵³, and possibly Chinese 腩 (OC *nuːmʔ).
