Borrowing from Pali yojanā (exegesis, interpretation), from Sanskrit योजना (yojanā, application of the sense of a passage, grammatical construction), from योजन (yójana, act of joining), from the root युज् (yuj), युग् (yug, to join) (compare युनक्ति (yunákti, to join)), from Proto-Indo-European *yewg- (to join).
