Etymology

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Doesn't seem to be mentioned by STEDT. MED considers it a compound of လင် (lang, husband; be sufficient) +‎ ပန်း (pan:, flower), which makes little to no sense. Could this be a more recent Sinitic borrowing? Compare Old Chinese (OC *baːn, “dish, tray”), Chinese 輪盤轮盘 (lúnpán, “roulette, wheel”).”
