Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (sarak "mango"). Luce appears to analyze the word as a compound of an element သ (sa.) of uncertain interpretation and origin + ရက် (rak, “nectar”).^[1] Perhaps the first syllable သ (sa.) is from Austroasiatic? Compare Vietnamese xoài (“mango”), Khmer ស្វាយ (svaay, “idem”), Hokkien 檨 (soāiⁿ, soān, soǎiⁿ) (note the Japanese on'yomi for the Hokkien character, しゃ (sha)).^[2]”
