Etymology

From ამა- (ama-) +‎ ო- (o-) +‎ შქ(ვ)- (şk(v)-) +‎ -უმერ (-umer) +‎ -ს (-s). Inherited from Proto-Kartvelian *šw- (“to let someone go; to leave”).

1. to send animate object inside, to bring inside

   მინთხა ტაზნა ტაზ, მა ვაბორტაში ოხოჲიშე მოთამოშქუმე(რ).

   mintxa ťazna ťaz, ma vaborťaşi oxoyişe motamoşkume(r).

   Whoever it is, don't let them in the house while I'm away.

2. to send smoke up the chimney

   ბაჯაქ იხის დუმანი თერცინე მეჩამს. ბაჯაში თეფეს თენექეში არ შაპკა ქონუკიდი დო იხი მოთამოშქუმეტაზ.

   bacak ixis dumani terʒine meçams. bacaşi tepes tenekeşi ar şap̌ǩa konuǩidi do ixi motamoşkumeťaz.

   The chimney blows the smoke in the opposite direction in the wind. Put a tin hat on the top of the chimney so it doesn't blow the wind inwards.
