Old Georgian edit

Etymology edit

Ultimately from Proto-Kartvelian *šew- ~ *šw- (to give birth). The expected root (v) is deleted due to the following (o) from the thematic suffix. Compare the past form შვა (šva).

Noun edit

შობაჲ (šobay)

  1. birth, delivery
  2. (Christianity) Christmas

Descendants edit

  • Georgian: შობა (šoba)
