From Pali atīta or Sanskrit अतीत (atīta, gone by, passed, past). Cognate with Lao ອາດີດ (ʼā dīt), Burmese အတိတ် (a.tit), Thai อดีต (à-dìit), Hindi अतीत (atīt).
