Etymology edit

Compared to Lithuanian plėvė (fine, thin skin) and Proto-Slavic *plěva (membrane), with prefixing. The form ἐπιπόλαιον (epipólaion) arose from connection with ἐπιπόλαιος (epipólaios, superficial, on the surface).
